6th grade ELA students visited 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms to perform a Readers Theatre from Chapter 8 of our novel Bridge to Terabithia. Students had fun being creative!

We’re thrilled to announce that Keeley Curran has earned a spot at the 48th Annual All-State Speech Festival on March 31, 2025, at the University of Northern Iowa! 👏 This is a remarkable achievement and a true testament to her hard work, dedication, and passion for the art of speech. To have been selected out of nearly 6,000 who started the competition at the District level is a unique honor.

The 6th graders taught Mrs. Pope all about ratios and turning them into decimals and percents. They also made a bar graph & the bonus was getting to eat the M&Ms when they were done! Thanks to Mrs. Bergan and the 6th graders for keeping Mrs. Pope informed!
Central's 9th graders went on a field trip for NICC's 9th Grade Campus Experience event at the Peosta Campus. NICC staff shared information on community college programming and provided a campus tour. This awareness event is designed to provide opportunities to help students understand how education and training relate to careers and work.
The 2nd graders enjoyed the Scaly and Slimy presentation from Abbey at Osborne! They learned about the characteristics of reptiles and amphibians. They also got to touch a live turtle, see a real snake and a salamander!

Today, our FFA members are driving their tractors to school, embracing the spirit of agriculture, and showing off their hard work!
Individual state speech participants did phenomenally yesterday at Starmont!!!
The state competition has three judges per performance, so getting great scores is a bit harder. If each judge gives a 1, they have an overall 1, which is the best you can do. You can still get an overall 1 even if one judge gives a 2, but it’s less likely you will make it to all-state. In order to go to all-state, you have to have an overall 1 and have a nomination from a judge! You can either get an all-state nomination or an all-state performance. Both are wonderful achievements, but performing is above all! It’s like winning the state championship in a sport! With all of that said, the following received straight 1s with an overall 1:

Did you know that Pi Day is observed on March 14th because the date 3/14 represents the first three significant figures of π (3.14)?
Yesterday, we celebrated the wonder of the mathematical constant π with a delicious twist! Pizza pie and dessert with a slice of apple pie? 🍏🥧
Fifth graders enjoyed a trip up to the preschool building to read with their little friends. They always enjoy the time they spend together.
Central band and choir students have kicked off our St. Louis trip with a fun visit to the zoo and a Jazz Club. Can't wait to see what the rest of the trip has in store!
Ms. Abbey presented Classified Information to fifth graders Students enjoyed learning how to classify fish looking at physical characteristics like body shape, fin types and locations, color patterns and more. Students also classified different types of candy with a partner looking for color, shape, flavor, etc. Thank you Ms. Abbey!
